RUSSELL SOMMERS earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric, summa cum laude with Honors, from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991, and a Juris Doctor degree in 1994 from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he served as an Associate Editor of the California Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board.
After law school, Mr. Sommers spent two years as Judicial Law Clerk to the Hon. Judge James B. Zagel in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago. He subsequently joined the Palo Alto, California branch of the law firm of Cooley Godward LLP (now known as Cooley LLP) as an Associate Attorney, before moving “in-house” to work as Counsel in the legal department of Sun Microsystems, Inc. (acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2010).
Subsequent to leaving Sun, Mr. Sommers acted as Consulting Corporate Counsel at eBay, Inc., Artisan Components, Inc. (acquired by ARM plc in 2004), and Siebel Systems, Inc. (acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2006), before joining Siebel Systems as Corporate Counsel, Global Services.
Following a stint in London, England as CEO & General Counsel of (Un)Common Man Productions LLC, Mr. Sommers returned to the United States and entered into private practice. He is currently the Owner & Principal of the Law Office of Russell Sommers in Los Angeles, California.
